![]() ![]() `If you're tired of the base game's combat rules and want something different or just want something a bit closer to tabletop, then BTA does an excellent job. So if you want an experience that's "base game, only even better", then BEX is awesome. It has come a long way from when I first played BTA when it was relatively new. ![]() And missions can certainly take longer than base/BEX with the extra mechs, but I've found it's not unreasonable. They work, but lack polish since the mods are pushing beyond anything the original game's interface ever envisioned supporting. But some of the additions don't fit very smoothly with the game's UI which gives it more of a beta release feel. With more mechs per drop, vehicles, heavily modified combat rules, and need for different tactics than base or BEX, it feels more like a sequel to me. I'm currently playing BTA and it changes the nature of combat enough that it feels more like a sequel, like it's BATTLETECH 2 early-beta. ![]() I'll never play the base game unmodded again as BEX completely obsoletes it as far as I'm concerned. It's like the base game had continued to receive lots of little updates which expanded the game's content, added more depth to the sim, but didn't substantially change the core mission combat outside of better balancing. I recently played BEX with the default 4-mech lance setup, and I think of BEX as BATTLETECH 1.20. It's really about what you want out of a modded experience. But BEX and BTA are both great mod setups that I've played recently. If you're looking for personal opinions and not just the descriptions in the stickied thread, I can't speak to RT as I haven't tried it in a long time. Overall mods difficulty from hardest to easier Roguetech > BTA 3062 > BEX > Vanilla In between you got BTA 3062 which puts the timeline in the FedCom civil war if i'm not mistaken, so you got basic tech at the beginning but you will encounter really fast OPFOR with some upperhands such as a double heatsinked blackjack or a bit later clan tech. If you want the vanilla game expended you have BEX which just expend the game with additional content as the lore stated for the timeline (3025-3050 i think) it is a step up from vanilla when encountering the clan where the mod author defined them as endgame content by making them quite powerful compared to their InnerSphere counterparts. It actually mix the tech of all battletech universe altogether in their corresponding location for exemple in the peripheries away from the center of the Inner sphere you will more likely encounter primitive tech while going up north near the rasalhague you may encounter clan tech (not sure about this one) This may looks like a pretty unforgiving experience for starter Roguetech aims to mess with the unprepared, it will push the player to gain every crumb of advantage he can get so does the ai. ![]()
